I Feel Stuck!

“I feel Stuck!”

I often have clients come to me because they feel stuck in some way.

It might be that they don’t know what career course to take or how to take their next steps in a relationship.

Sometimes this is because what’s driving their thinking is coming from a negative place.

In other words, their motivation is coming from fear, desperation or lack of self-worth.

Often, the voice in your head, (Mr not so nice guy), your inner critic is your driving force.

It might sound like this:

‘I pick the unsuitable partners because that’s all I feel I deserve..I won’t apply for that role because I’ll never get it…I won’t join that group because no one will like me.’

It really is important to clean up our thinking;

If we have an unhealthy relationship with ourselves, we are more likely to have unhealthy relationships with others.

So why does the Inner Critic always seem to be there?

Using your inner critic as a form of motivation is effective in that it gets us you do things;

If you criticise the way you look, it might motivate you go to the gym more or change your hair style.

Or, if you think you are not organised enough then your inner critic might motivate you to clean and tidy more, so it does work but it puts a huge amount of pressure on you.

So, the inner critic might appear to be useful in that it gets things done but not in a healthy or fulfilling way.

You will probably find that you can’t keep this pattern of thinking and behaviour up for very long at all! It’s exhaustin!

You will more than likely feel overwhelmed, burnt out and run down.

How do we shhh the Inner Critic?

  • Have a more healthy and compassionate relationship with yourself.

  • Talk to yourself more than you listen.

  • So, when you are pushing yourself to do something, ask yourself, am I coming from a place of love or from a place of fear, desperation or self-loathing?

  • Take the time to recognise the person you are now and how well you are doing and how much you’ve achieved so far.

  • Be kind to yourself like you would a friend.

  • Remember your achievements.

  • Put post-it notes of positive affirmations on your mirror or desktop.

  • Listen to podcasts and You Tube videos that inspire and uplift you.

  • Reach out for help from people you trust.

  • Practice gratitude or meditate; it doesn’t have to be for long – just a few minutes each day.

    Take good care of yourselves and gradually you will see and feel the difference.
